Schweizer Aircraft
is a diversified aerospace company, globally recognized for its industry-leading aircraft products. Over five thousand eight hundred (5800) sailplanes, helicopters, agricultural aircraft, and reconnaissance aircraft have been designed and manufactured by Schweizer Aircraft. Today, they are operated in more than seventy countries around the world.
Brief History
The three Schweizer brothers built their first glider in 1930 and incorporated the Company that bears their name in 1939. Prior to becoming a wholly owned subsidiary of Sikorsky in September 2004, Schweizer Aircraft was the oldest remaining privately-owned aircraft company in the United States. Schweizer Aircraft has produced 2160 sailplanes, 2650 agricultural airplanes, more than 60 special purpose fixed-wing aircraft and unmanned vehicles, and more than 850 helicopters. What We Do
Schweizer is dedicated to meeting the changing technological demands of the aerospace community. It has a skilled workforce, outstanding engineering and manufacturing capabilities, and a commitment to Total Quality. Since 1966, our production and maintenance employees have been represented by the United Auto Workers. The competitive global marketplace of the 21st century demands products with outstanding performance, quality, and value; and Schweizer's proprietary products exemplify all of these characteristics. Schweizer's proprietary products include helicopters, reconnaissance aircraft, and unmanned vehicles. Its other core business, aerospace subcontracting, has been an important part of the Company's business base since 1942. Since being acquired by Sikorsky, a new core business titled Rapid Prototyping has emerged at Schweizer.
Schweizer manufactures three proprietary helicopters: the piston-powered Model 300C and 300CBi helicopters and the turbine-powered Model 333. These exceptional products fill important niches in the helicopter market place and are known for their exceptional flight properties, safety, versatility, and cost effectiveness.
Schweizer manufactures two types of covert reconnaissance aircraft: the SA 2-37B and RU-38B. These aircraft are unique in their ability to detect and monitor activity on land or sea without detection from below. They are used by domestic and international customers for critical surveillance roles and routinely carry FLIR, EO, and electronic sensors.
In addition to its proprietary products, Schweizer has been an airframe subcontractor to the aerospace industry for over 60 years. During this period, Schweizer has performed on many hundreds of subcontract programs and worked with nearly every major U.S. aerospace company.
One of Schweizer Aircraft's newest business sectors is unmanned helicopters. Schweizer manufactures the Fire Scout VTUAV air vehicle under subcontract to Northrop Grumman. This unmanned vehicle will operate autonomously from land and sea to meet U.S. Navy and Marine requirements for reconnaissance and precision targeting.
